Biography

Shellie Brown joined Midway University as the Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations in July 2023.  Working under the direction of VP of Advancement, Brown is responsible for planning and implementing the annual giving program to ensure scholarships are available to students who need financial assistance and maintain Midway University’s historic campus.  Brown also works to maintain strong and valuable relationships with Midway University’s Alumni.

Prior to joining Midway University, Brown was Director of Volunteer Operations at Bluegrass Care Navigators (BCN), formerly known as Bluegrass Hospice Care.  Brown served at BCN for 19 years building and leading robust volunteer and community engagement programs that served more than 700 seriously ill patients across 32 counties in Kentucky.

As a non-traditional student at Midway University, Brown labored under difficult conditions as a working mother and devoted wife to obtain her degree.  Since the day Brown began attending classes at Midway University, she knew one day she would serve her alma mater with reverence and loyalty; just as the University had shown her.  Brown has been married to her husband, Kenny, for 32 years and they have a son, Austin, who lives in Florida.

Favorite Thing About Midway University

“There is something very special about seeing an individual in a graduation cap and gown that makes me giddy. With that, my favorite thing about Midway University is the Fannie H. Graves Amphitheater that was built in 1936, where all graduates walk across a stage to be honored for their greatest accomplishment.”
