Biography

Mr. Michalisin has over 25 years of successful finance-industry experience with a focus on evaluating companies, advising private businesses on capital structure, and managing portfolios of public securities within the asset management industry. In recent roles, Mr. Michalisin has been a Managing Partner of Timberfence Capital Partners, LLC, which he co-founded, and CEO of a Kentucky-based retail business it acquired. He is currently a Managing Partner of agricultural and equine investment entity LivFlora, LLC, Chairman of the Woodford County Economic Development Authority, and is also on the faculty of Midway University.

At Timberfence, Mr. Michalisin had the lead role in finding and developing investment opportunities in equine and agricultural-related businesses, and actively managing these investments with the same process discipline that translated into a long-term record of outperformance as a professional asset manager. Prior to founding Timberfence Capital Partners, Mr. Michalisin was for ten years a portfolio manager and Director with New York-based investment management firm MacKay Shields LLC. His clients included corporate pension funds, endowments, foundations, and a series of mutual funds. His group generated significant outperformance relative to its respective benchmarks while managing over $5B in assets.

Mr. Michalisin helped develop an investment process centered on valuation, cash flow, catalysts, and fundamental analysis of company and industry trends. Prior to Mackay Shields, Mr. Michalisin was a Vice President and equity research analyst at Deutsche Bank Alex Brown. He was the firm’s lead analyst covering the steel and metals industry and was regularly quoted in numerous publications including The Wall Street Journal and Forbes.

Mr. Michalisin has had significant involvement in the equine industry having developed a thoroughbred breeding and racing operation in Kentucky and New York that has produced winning horses at major racetracks in North America. He has commercially bred and sold horses at world-leading public auction houses Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland. He has also designed, structured, and raised capital for several successful alternative private investment vehicles targeted at various segments of the equine market in the US and internationally. These ventures are currently active.

His current volunteer activities include Treasurer of equine adoption charity Makers Mark Secretariat Center. He has been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 1997.
